Road Trip!!!

I am so sorry that I did not keep up with blogging last week! I had the most complicated week you could ever imagine! My daughter has been sick and we had to put her on antibiotics. She then had an allergic reaction to those antibiotics and broke out in hives!!!!!!! She is feeling much better now, but it was a trying week to say the least. I was only able to sew up the boys shirts in the midst of all of the chaos. I will be putting up the finished project photos this week before I leave on a last minute road trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, you read right! My family and I will be taking a road trip at the end of this week and be spending the weekend in a local exotic location!!!!!!!!! I have put up some pictures to help you guess where I am going. I am super excited about this little mini vacation! Lord knows we need it with everything that we have been going through around here lately! I will reveal the final location in a special post with all the fabulous photos from the vaction which will also include finished projects that are being sewn up for the trip! I know, I know it is super last minute to be sewing things up, but I am a last minute girl! I finished a dress this morning for missy xiu to wear while on vacation and it of course can also be used for school. And I am working on a special dress for me. I was inspired by a post on another blog about a style of dress that was very popular in the late 40's and through the 50's. The Squaw dress!!!!!!!! Now, please don't be offended by this name! Back then it was used for the name of this dress before people were politically correct. It was also called by a few other names, the patio dress, the fiesta dress. I like the fiesta dress, it just sounds more fun. This type of dress was inspired by the southwest. The mixture of cultures in the southwest is very rich and this dress was principally inspired my native american and mexican dress. Perfect for me I think! Since I am hispanic and have native american heritage as well! You can check out the inspiring blog post here. I hope all of you have had a better week than I had, and I hope this coming week is even better for all of us!!!!!!

  1. These dresses are so cool, thanks for posting this and the link. I have one myself. If you wear one, it is most certainly a fiesta. It's great to see the variations and hear about more about them. It was very common to see them in second hand clothing stores until recently. Another thing that I saw in the photos on the other blog was the squash blossom necklace. They are so beautiful. I have never worn a squash blossom necklace and squaw dress together but they do look great in those photos.
